But It's Not April Yet

April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing

Memory and desire, stirring

Dull roots with spring rain.
So said poet and St. Louis native T. S. Elliott in the opening lines of The Wasteland. Maybe it was that attitude that caused him to leave this city and decamp for England. Yet it's only March 28. April doesn't start until Friday.

Yesterday morning brought sun to the Missouri Botanical Garden, giving brilliant illumination to everything that was shrouded during Saturday's snowfall. The temperature rose during the day and it was almost all gone by afternoon.

Snow can change appearance and meaning, as seen today on Downtown St. Louis 365.

  2. Really lovely photos. Nice contrast between them. But tell me, why does Elliott think April is the cruelest month? The opening lines make April sound pretty good. Although the word "breeding" seems a little creepy.

  3. Winter wonderland again. The tulips will survive.

  4. The info you asked for about the camera is what I have...

The Camera was a Canon EOS Digital Rebel the XTi version. The lens was the Canon 70-200 IS with a 1.5 Canon extender and that changed the lens from an f4 to an f5.6. I suspect the ISO was 400 as that is almost an "average" with this lens though it does change automatically unless set.

I like your snowed picture, Bob. It didn't snow here in Southwestern Ohio yesterday but was 25º most of the time. The sun was out all day.

  7. Wait, April showers bring May flowers. Not too happy about our extended winter weather. But lovely photo none the less.
