Yesterday was interesting. Alcatraz Island was worth the trip. We learned that its history included more that the notorious prison, It began as an army base and artillery battery protecting the entrance to the bay during the Civil War. After we returned, the sun peeked out here and there as we had lunch in a waterside restaurant in Sausilito. The highlight of the day, though, was a visit to Muir Woods, the preserve of towering redwood trees.
We are so busy that there has been little time for editing pictures (let alone visiting yours). Maybe I'll get more done on the plane tomorrow.
Bottom: the exercise yard from the former Alcatraz Prison. Bleak.

Oh, Bob, these are fabulous images from one of the most extraordinary places on the planet.
ReplyDeleteYep, those trees looked just like that in the 60's when I visited. Well maybe they're a little taller !! :)

I can just see Kim Novak popping out from behind a giant redwood with the Carlotta hairdo...
ReplyDeleteStunning images Roberto!
Magnificent trees. beautiful photographs. What a fabulous experience. and yes, that exercise yard is grim.
ReplyDeleteThe first two shots are very dreamy. The last one makes you wonder what chance a prisoner has of ever adapting back to normal life.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I've been thinking 'dinosaurs' too much since I saw Walking with Dinosaurs the other day, but I can just see a raptor sneaking through those woods in the top photo. Excellent tones. Ansel Adams would have been proud of you!!
ReplyDeleteYour eye for the 'framing' of the shot is really good. I agree with the tones comment as well. I have many of adams' yosemite series and I can see similarities. More please!
ReplyDeleteGreat to know you got to visit Alcatraz. Nice experience.
