Same boat as in yesterday's picture. Once a grand cruise ship of the Mississippi River, the Admiral has been moored at riverside and used as a casino for some years. Its hull is no longer seaworthy and it cannot go out on excursions. Competition from bigger, newer casinos has killed it off. It will be closed by the end of June 2010.
I'll miss the silver boat. I have good memories of riding it during my student days. I won't miss the casino. Not that I've ever been in it but I think it's terrible social policy.

TOMORROW: The purpose of all this effort.
Two excellent compositions. In the bottom image you can almost see the boat sulking.
ReplyDelete«Louis» agrees with you about casinos being terrible social policy...
ReplyDeleteGreat color pattern against the gray sky in the first photo, and nice geometric patterns in the second.
ReplyDeleteThank you also for your comments, and I too look forward to seeing more of your photos.
I can't believe that in the two years I worked there and saw this old boat out my window every day, I never set a foot inside. I guess I'm not much of a gambler. It's too bad it can't be saved for something more constructive like rides along the Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pity. It will be a bereavement. The most modern building can't measure up to this unique ship. I hope the owner can find a new usage for it.
ReplyDeleteHeh, nice touch with the comic. I wonder what will become of the boat. I have a feeling it won't get another life. I may actually go burn some money there when I'm in town in April just to check it out. I think I've only been on it once, as a kid, before it was a Casino.
ReplyDelete«Louis’ sees that you've updated the post. The cartoon is PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great post, the riverboat has such beautiful lines, it's kinda sad to hear of it's demise. The casino industry is notoriously fickle.
