A little bit about the process of making the ice sculptures. Look at the concentration of the man above. He was using an electric drill with a conical abrasive bit .Shards of frozen debris were flying everywhere. Below, someone uses a rotary sander on a block that glows with light, much like Monday's angel.
I was surprised to see only one of the artists wearing eye protection. It seemed foolhardy.

I like his focused expression. I guess it's muy macho to go without.
ReplyDeleteLove the intensity on his face. Nice capture, Bob.
ReplyDeletej'aime la concentration sur le visage du sculpteur
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm new to the St. Louis area and I feel very blessed to come across your blog -- such stunningly beautiful photography! Some of your wonderful images actually made my eyes well up.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing such wonderful artwork! Take care & God Bless!
Sincerely,

He sure looks serious. I bet they don't wear eyewear since it would get fogged up with some much concentration, but not wearing protection isn't a good idea.
ReplyDeleteExcellent pair of shots. The fact that they are wearing a layer of ice shavings is a compelling argument for eye-protection.
ReplyDeleteFoolhardy? WEll what about the photographer with the big honker lens!!! Oh I'm sure you had a filter on it right?
ReplyDeleteThe angle for the portrait is great. I love looking through the ice at him.

The banner photo is HILARIOUS!! It's so original and what a great sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteReally cool series of photos over the past few days. It's interesting to see how the end result (at least the result before melting) is accomplished.
ReplyDeleteWho would they sue in case of an accident?
ReplyDeleteThe concentration and willpower in the first shot are palbable, excellent.
He is so intense and passionate about what he's doing that safety was totally overlooked...
ReplyDeleteWonderful series and delightful attention to detail
THANK YOU!
This is a great series, Bob!
ReplyDeleteLike you, «Louis» is surprised they aren't wearing eye protection. 'Foolhardy' is putting it mildly!
