One Thousandth Post

.
One thousand of these. I heard about CDPB in early 2007 from my good friend Peter, a lawyer in Seattle in the same specialty as me and a damn good photographer. He thought I might find this interesting. I will blame him for this addiction for the rest of my life.

What a lot of work and fun. Doing a daily photoblog has caused great improvement in the quality of my photography. It has also gotten in the way of work, dramatically reduced the number of books I read and generally resulted in having no free time. It has taken me to dinner in Shanghai with Jing and lunch outside of Paris with Olivier. I've made friends who I have never met face to face but feel I've gotten to know very well, most of all my pal Virginia, but also Cieldequimper, Bibi, Brattcat, Sharon, Chuck, Jilly, Victor, PJ, Nathalie, Kim, Ming the Merciless and lots of others.

Thanks to all of you who have made comments and supported this effort. A tip of the hat to U "R" Us, who took the new header photo. Thanks particularly to my saintly wife, who has put up with this obsession for nearly three years with grace and encouragement.

How much longer can this go on? Well...

TOMORROW: the second millennium begins. With exactly what I don't know yet.

  1. Oh, woof and yay! Selfishly I am thrilled to be the first to leave a comment, unless someone else finished typing his/her word verification while I'm typing this.

Bob, I have enjoyed your photos so much, and am waiting for the next 1,000...and the next Your new banner is a hoot, and I love the photo you posted for today.

All the best from cold Belgrade, where Bibi has a cough and cold.

  6. Hi Bob, congratulations for the beginning of the 2000th path, sure full of joy, colors and forms probably with a fine soundtrack of Glassreichzappaberlioz. Love your HDRs! Have a great Sunday of celebration. Cheers.

  7. A great big congratulations on the first millennium! I love your photos, they bring back many pleasant memories of time spent in your city. After spending two years with a birds eye view of the arch, I love the way you make me see it in a whole new way at least once a week. I toast you!!

  8. Well, this is a double hoot of a post between the header and the 1,000th image! Happy day for all of us that you've stayed with it for nearly three years now and sacrificed (as your wife has sacrificed...as we all can appreciate) so much for us. Here's to obsessions of the most harmless and illuminating sort! Happy 1000 and looking forward to 1001 and 2 and 3...! Scheherazade would be proud of you, Bob. And thanks for the shout out...I'm a relative newcomer to your blog and feel honored to have made the cut.

  11. Bob, congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment.

You'll be pleased to know, I finally bought a grown-up camera and two pieces of glass. I'm looking forward to photography with my new toy.

  12. Well I"m proud to have made the cut as well. What a terrific friend and mentor you've been. You've looked at a zillion mediocre photos of mine and always found something positive to say. I found you the first or second week of my blog and I've enjoyed every post you've made since then. A great big hug goes to Carolyn as well. Lordy I know that woman is a saint!

Go forth and blow out your memory card B !!

  13. Bob - congratulations on your millennium achievement. You credit me with getting you hooked, but additional credit should go to my daughter Mary (also a great photographer) with originally coming across the city photo blog site. Blog on, my friend. - Peter from Seattle

  17. Bob, a day late and a dollar short - is that the saying...? No matter, here I am with bells on and red carpets along the beach to send you a 1000 congratulations for each day you've posted. A great feat and a fabulous blog. I love your photographs and I love your mind and one day I really hope we meet.

I so understand your words, yes photography improves as time passes - and somehow life gets smaller but perhaps it really gets bigger as we learn to see our world, really see it, as you see yours and share it with us so beautifully. I adore your photo today.

And am proud to be included in your list of friends, thanks a lot. Absolutely made my day!

Your new header is brilliant! See what I mean about your mind...!

  19. Like Jilly I'll have to take the blame for being late. Please excuse me if I can no longer visit daily but my congratulations are nevertheless deeply heartfelt. 1000 posts, what an achievement!

The only problem I have with your blog is when I see your photography I feel mine is so inferior I sometimes want to sweep the whole thing under the carpet and go fishing (well, so to speak. I hate fishing. Sailing?).

Like Jilly again I hope one of your next trips to France takes your down south and we can organise a bloggers meeting. That would be fun!
