Kowabunga, dude!Sorry no post yesterday. Some of the places where we are staying don't have Internet. We spent Friday in Nikko, a city important to the spirit of Japan (check the link). We had some amazing luck, stumbling onto the Grand Parade, an event held on October 17 to commemorate the internment of the first Tokugawa shogun in this town. About 700 people march in 17th Century costumes. We found it stunning.
OH the precious children I aked for! Merci!! They look so adorable in those gorgeous orange robes and their little hats. I want that little guy leading the line.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are having fun. I'm keeping an eye on A. for you!HA
Japanese culture is all about honoring anscestors and it's thrilling to see these costumes. They're so elegant.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Virginia and PJ: The costumes are wonderful to see, and I think the blue shoes of the line leader in your shot (and that posture) make the shot. I think this is my fave so far. Don't you love when that happens and you come upon something so grand and beautiful unexpectedly?! We had that happen once when we lived in SF and took some friends visiting from Sweden down to Pacific Grove (near Monterey) to see mutual friends. We were walking down to the shore at sunset when we noticed people coming from all directions carrying lighted paper lanterns. We followed them and got to see an outdoor play on the water depicting Chinese lovers, and a magical fireworks display afterward. Our guests were enchanted and refused to believe we hadn't planned it all in advance.
