Much of the north side of the City of St. Louis is a hard place to live. It is predominantly black and poor, with limited neighborhood facilities. An older part of the area, close to the Mississippi, is home to a restaurant that is a local institution, more about which on Friday. What's pictured here is across the street. Still, it's not a happy neighborhood. What's a nice Japanese optometrist doing in a place like this?
Beats me. This looks like a tough way to make a living from a professional practice. Obviously, the overhead is very low but there's got to be more to the story. Would you be interested in contact lenses?

The dominant sign is a very effective and clever way to advertise.
ReplyDeleteCreative sign, though not flashy as we would expect from a graphic artist company. It does have that no nonesense look - straight and to the point with a personal artistic flare. I find this rather eye catching.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, I think this good eye doctor just try to rejuvenate this part of city. Or maybe avoided skyrocket insurance by practice in that neighbourhood, I don't know. But I really like to know more.

ReplyDeleteit is a very creative sign for an optometrist... i'll have to look for this sign when i'm up that way next time. i'll pass on the contact lenses, since i got lasik back 7 years ago =) no more eye docs for me!
ReplyDeletedo you actually know much about this neighborhood, aside from the stigmas placed on it? i lived two blocks away from this sign, and i think it's pretty presumptuous of you to declare it "not a happy neighborhood." do you know the families who live there? they're are some of the most optimistic, supportive people i've ever met. yes, the resources are low there, but if you spent any amount of time inside old north i think you'd quickly realize that's not the only thing that makes a neighborhood. i'm proud of this optometrist.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese doctor may live happily in a very quiet place. poverty is not inconvenient for peace! Even I like to visit this clinic optometrist.
