This is actually, really, Stephen King's house, 47 West Broadway, Bangor, Maine.
Flew into Bangor last night on my way to what my co-workers call Camera Camp in Rockport, Maine. Really interesting little city with fabulous architecture in the older parts of town. And there's a superb restaurant, Thistles, owned by an Argentine-Columbian couple who have a large list of Argentine wines and tango night on Tuesday! Bangor was the world's largest lumber shipping port in the late 19th Century. And Mr. King has lived here for years. Note the bat on the wrought iron fence.
The big guy on the left is Paul Bunyan, the legendary greatest lumberjack of them all. Bangor claims his origin. And I want to tell you, there are one hell of a lot of trees from here into the interior.
Down to the coast and The Maine Media Workshops later on Sunday, for a week of photography fun.

Well you've just fulfilled a life long dream. I've always wanted to see where Stephen King lives, the place he creates his masterpieces! Thanks to my dear mother I grew up reading King. I was the only elementary schooler I knew who could read anything like it and not have nightmares. Thanks. Hope you're having fun in Maine!
ReplyDeleteMe too I ever wanted to see where he lives. Thank you so much about this photo !
ReplyDeleteInteresting post. I like the media workshop idea too.

Is it just my eyes or does the house look a bit tipsy?
ReplyDeleteIt's probably the angle of the land the house is on, I'd guess. inda fitting, though. Stephen King isn't exactly a straight house kinda guy!
ReplyDeletec'est le manoir de la famille adam's ;o)
ReplyDeleteit is the manor of the family adam' S ;o)
Stephen King, Paul Bunyan! What a combo! While you are visiting, I hope you don't encounter any needful things, secret windows or gardens or storms of the century or anybody named Carrie! Have a safe trip, and say hi to one of my favorite authors if you chance upon him!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments. I was lying on my belly in the grass between the sidewalk and the street with a 24 - 105 mm lens set pretty short. I wanted something to anchor the view so I made the fence parallel to the bottom of the frame. It made the house a bit askew, which was fine for the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteToday at camera camp, I learned more about lighting an interior shot than I had in the last 57 years, four months and something days. And I only touched the surface. The teacher is fabulous. Lots more to go! I may post some of my student work over the next few days if my classmates, the subjects, give me permission.
It looks like a place he would live. I love the architecture. AND the Paul Bunyan statue!
ReplyDeleteI was in Bangor a couple of years ago on holiday trip, my wife and I tried to find this house but didn't succeed in our exploration, I'm happy to see it now, thanks.
ReplyDeleteHow great to see the house of Stephen King! Thanks for that :o)
ReplyDeleteHow weird is that? Now I'm in Bangor and this is my home!
ReplyDeleteI went to Thistles last month when I was up here for a car-buying-apartment-hunting trip. The food was indeed delicious -- everything was cooked to the right done-ness.
I will have to check out the media workshop you mentioned.
