For several months, the spectacular Missouri Botanical Garden had installations of Dale Chihuly's glass sculpture all over the place. It was a delight. These glass bonbons floated in a reflecting pool up to the Climatron, a geodesic dome enclosing a rain forest. It was designed following the principles of R. Buckminster Fuller, the visionary designer and architect. The sculptures in the reflecting pool are by the Swedish artist, Carl Millies.TOMORROW'S POST: White Photographers Can't Jump

Thank you, James. I like oysters. I like Berlin. I like Bath, too, and have visited a few times. Having said that, I haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about.
ReplyDeleteLast winter Dale Chihuly came to Coral Gables Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden. I took an album of pictures and put them on my Tog site for two months. He came back this year because him sold more here in Coral Gables then any show that he has ever displayed. Now he is back again, it's profit as well as art. My wife and I will go over and take some more pictures of the new material.

I am a fan of Chihuly's work especially his clutters of blown glass chandeliers.

ReplyDeleteHi Chris & Deb. The installation is gone now. It wasn't just in this reflection pool but all over the garden, indoors and out. The glass was not illuminated from within but the outdoor pieces had spotlighing at night. You might find more pix on the garden's web site, www.mobot.org.

After learning about Dale Chihuly's nature-mimicking works only a month ago, I think the most mind bending work of his that Ive seen must be seaforms (controversial yes, but a work of genius nontheless). I made an article on him and Lino Tagliapietra, please visit it!
