LOL! True story: St Louis--formerly "Cahokia"--is situated near the confluence of America's central river system (near where the Mississippi, Missouri and Ohio rivers meet). For thousands of years it was the mercantile capital of North America for the native people; raw materials and finished goods were traded there, and transported across the continent. It was such a major hub that it was only in 1850 that Philadelphia eclipsed St Louis as the most populous city in the USA, because of the native population in MO. (So your 'St Louis 250th birthday cakes' are well-intended, no doubt, but wrongheaded.)Dagwood Arnellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11915899077178788123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1740227464249118134.post-25133090769804850832015-01-17T21:23:08.433-06:002015-01-17T21:23:08.433-06:00It is pretty easy to see why settlers picked St. L...It is pretty easy to see why settlers picked St. Louis to build a major city.Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03323811980627840654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1740227464249118134.post-3514949952067604732015-01-17T15:58:14.924-06:002015-01-17T15:58:14.924-06:00I've lived in St. Louis all my life, and I'...I've lived in St. Louis all my life, and I've only seen the confluence in person once.Normahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12685538277690762655noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1740227464249118134.post-78531054053854783302015-01-17T15:34:18.892-06:002015-01-17T15:34:18.892-06:00The shot taken on that spit of land really gives p...The shot taken on that spit of land really gives perspective to the location.William Kendallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00331324250821836822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1740227464249118134.post-48307799068140851402015-01-17T09:54:59.748-06:002015-01-17T09:54:59.748-06:00On our cross country trip in '75 we camped alo...On our cross country trip in '75 we camped along the Missouri and survived one wicked thunderstorm that actually lifted our tent.
