We live in a madhouse. We have an utterly dysfunctional government. I found this sign last night on the doors of the Old Courthouse. Many people don't know it but this building and the Arch, so often seen on this blog, are part of the National Park system. They are closed.
But that's trivial. This is a St. Louis photography blog, not a political blog, but I can barely contain my rage at what is going on in our House of Representatives. As some of you know, I represent people on claims for federal disability benefits. Scheduled hearings are being held for the moment but no decisions will be issued during the shutdown. I had a hearing yesterday for a woman with a devastating spinal injury. The judge told us he would approve her but he cannot issue his ruling. My client is desperate for income and health insurance. She won't get them any time soon.

What is happening in America is beyond belief.
vraiment surprenant, je connais pas bien la politique américaine mais cela doit poser beaucoup de problèmes aux personnes que tu défends (et autre...)
... and they call it the greatest country in the world? Sometimes we need to step back.
They not 3... but MANY Stooges are running around claiming to be doing the 'peoples' work'.
For SHAME!
I've been following the news. Strange and dangerous things are taking place in Europe including in my country (of course!), but it's so weird what is happening out there.
And some of the Congressmen responsible for the shutdown say that their constituents do not notice and are not harmed by the shutdown. Their are children not receiving cancer treatments. And imported meat is no longer being inspected. I could go on and on ad naseum.
The richest most powerful country in the world doesn't want to offer their people basic healthcare. We've become a third world country.

It's broken and I don't think it can be fixed.
From outside the country, it seems that the entire country is being held hostage by a pack of lunatics who have hijacked the GOP.
Congress is hyper partisan enough, but it's seemed worse in recent years, and in a really ugly way.
