STL DPB On The Road: The Chicago Marathon

.
2011-10-09 Chicago Marathon 1

For my money, anyone who deliberately runs 26.2 miles - just over 42 km - needs to have his or her head examined. That includes my son, Andy, and 45,000 of his closest friends who ran the Chicago Marathon yesterday. Above, our pride and joy picks it up 150 m from the finish line with couldn't-be-worse backlighting. Below, the mob at the first milepost.

Back home after a long drive. It's late; I'm pooped. We must have marched maybe 6 or 8 miles around the city trying to follow him. Not nearly what he did, but more than enough for my old legs and feet. Some more of this tomorrow, and back to commenting on my friends' blogs.

j'aime bien la deuxieme photo, avec la foule que l'on devine derriere les coureurs et le coureur qui essaye de passer devant.

Congratulations to your son on his amazing accomplishment, and congratulations to all who supported him in his training and effort.

Yesterday morning I saw Mayor Rahm Emmanuel on Meet the Press and he mentioned that yesterday the Chicago Marathon is occurring. I thought to myself, "Hey, I knew that from reading Bob's St. Louis Daily Photo blog today."

I get tired just watching marathoners.

Great to "See Andy Run"! :)

I'm still LOL about your backlighting comment. Doesn't it just kill you that they don't think of that when they lay out the course and finish line???

My son did this marathon in 2008, it was an intensely hot Oct and the race had a fatality and attempted to encourage the runners to stop before Chinatown. I also trekked all over the city to see my son in the race. He finished and I understand your fatigue. Congrats to you and your son!

The "mob" shot says it all. We have a parishoner in Crestwood that has been accepted to run in Boston next year. I agree with you on the "needs their head examined" part, Bob.

Looking forward to more,
Chip

Terrible light indeed, yet it's a great portrait. Congratulations to your offspring but I'll side in with you: running 42 kms isn't my idea of sanity.

Great bottom photo too - love the action and the different styles of the runners :-)

Wonderful shots, the beer one, too. Today in the news was a lady who ran a marathon and gave birth right afterwards....

Congrats to Andy. I have never run more than 10 km in my life, so I'm impressed with his effort.
