Two Thousand Nine Hundred And Ninty Six Flags

.
Flags On Art Hill 1

A group of people planted 2,996 flags Saturday on Art Hill, the great bowl in Forest Park. It was build in memory of those who died on 9/11. The sight was overwhelming.

I've heard it will be up through the coming weekend. Locals, this is a must see.

3000 is just a number until you see how many that really is. This looks like a very moving display.

Very touching.

This certainly helps visualize the personal losses. Each flag should be multiplied to represent the spouses, parents, children and siblings of those whose loss has left such a hole in the heart of the survivors.

Those are amazing pictures, very striking.

And entirely appropriate for the day.

Thank you for posting, Bob. I read the article in the Post last week describing what was planned. I really appreciate your pictures of a beautiful tribute. In Union City, CA, there is a beautiful memorial for hereos of Flight 93. We must never forget.

Yes it's only when you see an actual sight like this that the number becomes more of a reality. Excellent pictures Bob.

All shots are great but the perspective at the bottom is amazing. I agree with Perth as to the number becoming more of a reality. Impressive!

Excellent, Bob. I have seen similar displays with smaller flags, but with full-size flags, the effect must be awesome.
