Happy Days

.
Aix-en-Provence June, 2000 1

We begin our journey to France tonight. Happy days! There are few countries on this ball of rock I enjoy more.

While searching for our spare euros over the weekend I came across a CD of photos taken in 1999 and 2000 with my first digital camera. It was a good one for the time, a Sony. This was the period when I got hooked on digital photography. These particular shots were taken in Aix-en-Provence in June 2000. Although we won't go through Aix on this trip we will be in Provence (Avignon), which is in a running battle with Tuscany for heaven on earth.

The bottom picture was taken on the Cours Mirabeau in Aix. It has been slightly modified to reflect my attitude toward eating American food when in France. The sign designer doesn't know how to use the apostrophe in English, but then neither do most Americans or Brits.

I spent many, many happy times in Aix when I was a student there in '68-'69 (gasp). When I passed through again years later, Aix, at least the Cours Mirabeau and central part, had lost its quaintness.... But I still love Provence...
